Il cardamomo è una delle spezie più diffuse nella cucina dell’India. Si ricava dalla pianta dell’Elettaria cardamomum, ed è sempre più diffuso ed apprezzato anche in Europa.
Era conosciuto in Europa fin dai tempi dei Greci e dei Romani, che lo utilizzavano per produrre profumi, ed è attualmente nota come la terza spezie più cara al mondo dopo zafferano e vaniglia.
